Job Description
Our Head of People role will be based at B&Q Wincanton in Swindon with responsibility for managing and developing the site team (People Advisor, People Assistant and Payroll)
The Head of People Role-
- Ensure the provision of a high quality people service to stakeholders in all areas of HR including resourcing, employee relations, learning & development and reward
- Manage a heavy ER caseload, advising on legislative and company policy and procedures
- Develop effective on-going relationships at all levels establishing yourself as a credible, respected and valued manager, responding to queries directly and influencing managers to follow a best practice approach
- Assist departmental managers on the interpretation and implementation of company policies and procedures as well as local agreements
- Support the delivery of the People plan for the year, making adjustments where required to suit the business
- Compile and analyse MI
- Ensure compliance and keep up to date with new legislation and policy change
- Proactively analyse and identify areas of improvement, and be a key influencer to help drive change
- Work together with local workforce representatives to maintain a positive and constructive working relationship, implementing an employee relations climate of excellence to support the site's ongoing cultural development
- Contribute towards the improvement of processes and methods of operating practices where required
- Assist in the coaching, mentoring and development of the management team
- Assist with annual pay review/pay claims
- Support recruitment activity ensuring compliance to internal policies and selection of the most suitable candidates
What will you bring as a Head of People?
- Strong generalist People / HR background with a track record of delivering as a People (HR) Manager ideally gained in a fast paced, logistics / retail environment.
- Good working knowledge of employment law and experience dealing with volume and complex ER issues
- Results focused with a demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities with solid time management and organisational skills
- CIPD Level 5 qualified or desire to work towards
- Experience of working in a unionised environment
- Organised and self-starting with ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent IT skills in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Passionate about developing and supporting colleagues to fulfil their potential
- Previous experience with Oracle or complex HR systems is preferred but not required
The working hours for Head of People on offer are 37.5 with an element of flexibility, currently the team work 08.00 to 16.00.
